Petra and Joerg Kugelmeier
Petra and Joerg Kugelmeier were both trained at the “Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen GmbH” and, after a four year apprenticeship, remained there for a further six and seven years, respectively. From there they then opened their own studio in 1991 in the picturesque town of Lenggries in Bavaria/Germany. Petra always was devoted to the painting of flowers and – like many other artists – was taught by E. Riegel, although she did admire the style of Siggi Wendler. This teacher was also very much held in awe by the late master painter Uwe Geissler who constantly referred to him as being his “favourite teacher and a great friend”. Petra’s works are perfectly complemented by those of her husband who was initially trained in painting figures and landscapes and the art of Indian painting. He is particularly fond of genre painting and is quite famous for his very personal interpretation of miniatures in the Watteau style.

The Kugelmeiers gave their first lessons in porcelain painting at their own studio in 2005 (which also coincided with them opening a shop which sold china whiteware and painting supplies) and they tended towards the classical style of painting, although now they can develop their own creations.

Every year about 15 – 20 courses are given to classes of approximately 6 – 8 students and, in addition, the artists regularly give seminars abroad stretching as far away as Canada, USA, Mexico and to South Korea. They are extremely productive, but at the same time remain very modest and quite unaffected by their fame when making a personal appearance at annual conventions in Switzerland, and always receive the highest scores and, of course, win prizes!
